o'clock

im not sure i know one person who actually owns an actual real life clock except my mother. blackberries, iphones, cable boxes, microwaves, everything HAS a clock on it, but no one has an actual clock.

I just got a new bedside table (not the gorgeous overpriced one i posted about yesterday, a cheaper, less awesome but still nice West Elm one). And the last thing I want is to roll over and look at my big gross shiny blackberry first thing in the morning to see just how late I am for something. I want the "tick, tick, tick" I had when I was little before everything plugged into a wall.

So I'm-a shoppin for a lovely little clock to go at my bedside. From my adventures on the internet (ok i am still grateful for some of the things that plug into walls), here are my faves.

a girl can dream

So it's almost a joke in our house about how many chairs we own.
We have an 8 person dining table, but my dining table has since been shoved up against a wall to mask itself as my workspace.... so there are about 6 or 7 chairs just kind of sitting randomly around my house. My desk chair is a dining room chair, which would be great if I didn't get up about 300 times a day.

I've toyed with putting it on casters, but what I really need is something that swivels AND has wheels...
But for now I'm going to dream of all the superb and insanely expensive chairs I WISH I could afford.

thanks, 1st dibs. now i hate myself.

price not listed, jfchen

$1,200, gallery33

$3,300, orange

$12,500 (!!!!!), roark

$1,250, blendinteriors

and there you have it.
a list of 5 chairs i'll never own.

where the magic happens

So i stripped down white bedroom to bare minimum and took some pictures. Then i found some things for the bedroom and i think i've gotten somewhere. i have to be careful to pick anything that i like TOO much cause then i won't like it in a year.

so i'm trying to stay simple but not boring.

Decoratorgator

so i'd always prefer to decorate my own home, obviously. i like the idea of measuring and finding things that work, and yada yada yada. but sometimes there are things that you don't know, that cost you money, things you end up hating, or things that just look sour and don't connect with you or your surroundings.

this happens in every room. i love love love my house, and i like my taste, but sometimes the total package just does not come together. i have lots of different ideas, and while that's good, it can be a little chaotic and can lack fluidity. i love country house vibe, i love bazaar flea market style, i love organzed clutter, but i love simplicity, i love flowers but i hate them, i love leapord but i hate it. i love handmade style but not "homemade" style. its very overwhelming when you're trying to decorate cause everything just sort of doesn't work, and then projects go unfinished and it just feels never ending - and not in a good way.

anyway, so the white bedroom was great for like 2 days and then we realized that anything and i mean ANYTHING - a stray sock, even a pair of sunglasses, made the room look AWFUL, so i am trying to find a way to build on the fact that we painted the room a beautiful bright white. i wish we could paint the floors white, but alas, a renter's dilemma.

here are some flickr finds of bedrooms i love.

a-wreath-a franklin

i've never had a wreath before.
it always seemed like something i might do in my 30s.

but i got one - i might as well be in my 30s i suppose.
i went to Tinsel Trading (my favorite place everrr) and bought vintage glass beads and pretty birds and vintage velvet flowers and leaves and ribbons. it was all pretty randomly selected but i think it works!

it was fun to decorate!

here she is...

we had SO much fun decorating our tree this weekend, it was so romantic and fit every idealistic view i have of decorating for christmas. it really really was a perfect weekend and now i can't believe every night i get to look at this pretty tree in my apartment.

off to get a tree!

i've been waiting for this day since February!

sunday funday

i'm pretty excited.
also, hungover, but mostly, excited.
i bought this from somethings hiding in there today. i've had my eye on it for a while now and i went to check up on it and there was only 1 left, and i wasn't sure if they'd be adding more or not.... i didn't want to risk it.
it's super radical.

hail to the friggin chief!

the beginning

so this is the very very beginning of my Christmas decorations. very simple and kind of summery, actually - but i decided to put something colorful up so there you go - I'm calling it Christmas! i'm gonna make a bunch more so there are like 15 all jumbled up there!

i am loving it and hope it stays around 4eva!

i'm having a hard time deciding which i like best!

work in progress

so my bedroom is still a little dry. although i painted the walls and got the linens and the curtains and the rug, it's lacking something. beyond a headboard and "perfect" art on the walls, there is an element that I needed to replace and now I know what it is!

My side table!
at present, it's a plexiglass nesting table which i love but lacks the
heart to be a part of my bedroom.

I'm gonna order this adorable hand crocheted pouf from le souk and put my silver Moroccan tray on top of it.
verrrry excited.

carry moonbeams home in a jar

i wish i was a witch so i could concoct a spell that would give me either:

1) this bathtub
2) $3,850 in cash so i could go to restoration hardware and buy it my damn self.

hell to the yea!

i did it!

so easy i just took so long to actually get off my coolie to do it!

i am so happy and feel so accomplished!

plus, i LOVE it!

i bought that shabby piece of crap last year at the flea market
thinking i'd re-paint and re-upholster right away, but of course
i just kind of ignored the project until today.

all you need is a piece of crap, a bucket of paint, some fabric, a staple gun,
and about an hour and a half of some free time!

yay!

seven days and seven nights

ugh aren't these beautiful?

there is just enough 80s in them to make them cool, and mixed with white peonies, or yellow english garden roses (my favorite), can you imagine?
so beautiful.

personally i think the pink rose is a little obvious.....

set of 7 vases, $230

The opaline is beautiful also.
Such a good wedding gift!
Well, it would be a good wedding gift for me!

set of 7, $230
