so today is a very exciting day for me (and my husbandufflemuffin)...

we quit smoking 20 weeks ago today!

we were both long time smokers, and have tried to quit (together and separately) many times before. we have NEVER been this committed and have definitely never lasted this long. i am in it to win it and this time, it's for good!!! i have absolutely zero desire to smoke and i'm really really proud of jamie for sticking with it (he did not go willingly).

for those who want to quit and have failed before (basically anyone who as ever smoked, ever!) - for us, the patch worked wonders. it's a little bit expensive but its completely worth it. smoking will cost you a lot more in the long run, in more ways than one!

im not sure i know one person who actually owns an actual real life clock except my mother. blackberries, iphones, cable boxes, microwaves, everything HAS a clock on it, but no one has an actual clock.

I just got a new bedside table (not the gorgeous overpriced one i posted about yesterday, a cheaper, less awesome but still nice West Elm one). And the last thing I want is to roll over and look at my big gross shiny blackberry first thing in the morning to see just how late I am for something. I want the "tick, tick, tick" I had when I was little before everything plugged into a wall.

so today i bought about 30 heads of garlic so i could make some roasted garlic to bring over to my dearest loveliest friend in all boroughs. you see, we are making dinner together at her house and i thought i'd be a grownup and bring a gift. i also wanted some for myself. so there.

the truth has come out.

anyway it's really easy to make and there is a recipe in this months FOOD Everyday but there is a link to another version of it below (the one i made had fresh thyme leaves sprinkled on top, before you pour the oil).

i bought a nice pretty jar at the cooking store and then made a label and printed it onto a full sheet kraft label (can be found here) cut it out and stuck that baby on top.

i think it looks rather cute!

one of my favorite ways to shop on etsy is to go to MY favorite etsy shop's favorite etsy shops (say that 3 times fast), and see what they like. so basically if i love Store A, I want to see who Store A loves. make sense? i also have found some great shops who have marked ME as a favorite. it's all very share-y and fun over here today.

anyway, in case you happen to love MY shop, i'm going to start featuring one of my favorite shops per week. you could also go to my favorites, which are public (i hate when they are private!), but I thought it would be fun to save you the work.

here goes:
One of my favorite stores to browse (no baby yet so nothing to buy yet!) is Baby Hank Vintage. The pictures are light and sweet and it makes you think your child just might behave if he or she were wearing something so completely adorable. Based in San Fran, with a really super cute blog - Say YES! to Hoboken, this shop finds and sells the sweetest vintage baby clothes. there are new items all the time, but below are some of my fave items for sale in the shop.

i got new ca'ds! new ca'ds...

i haven't really felt like making anything lately, knitting has sort of stalled (it's taken me 3 months to finish a hat i could have done in one day, just not motivated), i'm delaying the last section of my color wheel quilt, im just feeling craftily lazy lately. anyway, i finally got my ass into gear and made a bunch of new cards, along with a kit of 12 cards (the last image is the entire package) designed to last you basically through the year. 4 birthday cards, 2 thank you notes, a mother's & father's day card, a few sexy love notes, a congratulations note - things like that. that way you're never stuck at a party with a stupid card covered in glitter.

anyway here are a few pictures. my favorite is the anatomical heart one. in person it is so simple and sweet, i will definitely be making them to mail to my people.

i went to the liberty of london pop up shop in new york last week with my good friend annie and while it was super awesome, i was mildly disappointed cause they didnt have most of the stuff i wanted there (the gardening supplies, cake stands). or they may have but i just didn't see it, what with all the insane psychotics running around.

This Christmas we received a beautiful gift from our friends via One Kings Lane, an insanely awesome discount home decor site.

I went on over there and have since made two purchases (one being the Kalorik steam press I was talking about! half price!) and today, this really really beautiful set of Fino Lino place mats. No no, I do not ever even eat at a table, nor do I have guests over for dinner often.

But on the rare occasions I do host a dinner party or even have friends over for dinner, I'm very happy to say that these place mats will be the cushion between the plate and my table.

This makes me want hot pink dinner plates.

So it's almost a joke in our house about how many chairs we own.
We have an 8 person dining table, but my dining table has since been shoved up against a wall to mask itself as my workspace.... so there are about 6 or 7 chairs just kind of sitting randomly around my house.My desk chair is a dining room chair, which would be great if I didn't get up about 300 times a day.

I've toyed with putting it on casters, but what I really need is something that swivels AND has wheels...
But for now I'm going to dream of all the superb and insanely expensive chairs I WISH I could afford.

so i'd always prefer to decorate my own home, obviously. i like the idea of measuring and finding things that work, and yada yada yada. but sometimes there are things that you don't know, that cost you money, things you end up hating, or things that just look sour and don't connect with you or your surroundings.

this happens in every room. i love love love my house, and i like my taste, but sometimes the total package just does not come together. i have lots of different ideas, and while that's good, it can be a little chaotic and can lack fluidity. i love country house vibe, i love bazaar flea market style, i love organzed clutter, but i love simplicity, i love flowers but i hate them, i love leapord but i hate it. i love handmade style but not "homemade" style. its very overwhelming when you're trying to decorate cause everything just sort of doesn't work, and then projects go unfinished and it just feels never ending - and not in a good way.

anyway, so the white bedroom was great for like 2 days and then we realized that anything and i mean ANYTHING - a stray sock, even a pair of sunglasses, made the room look AWFUL, so i am trying to find a way to build on the fact that we painted the room a beautiful bright white. i wish we could paint the floors white, but alas, a renter's dilemma.

i buy things all the time. i buy yarn and fabric and stuff for the house, stuff for other people, stuff for our dogs. in fact, lately, i feel like i am always standing at a cash register. but it is rare i get stuff for myself. i really really don't buy much in the vein of jesse. but yesterday i ordered a top that caught my eye not only because it will fit seamlessly into my ever-increasingly casual wardrobe - the title had my name all over it "slubby slouchy vintage men's top" or something like that. i think anyone who knows me can attest that those 4 words pretty much describe my entire identity. maybe except vintage. i'm only 27. i am, however, a man.
